Magic Red's ViewFinder provides a precise framing preview for the real camera and lens combination you will be using, directly from your iPhone or iPad. It effectively simulates the field of view of cinema digital cameras and lenses, making it a useful tool for professionals involved in filmmaking during preproduction.
It is important to note that this app functions as a stand-alone tool and does not convert your Apple device into an external monitor. While ad banners are present in the app, these can be disabled through an additional in-app purchase within the 'About the App' menu.
This digital director's viewfinder assists in visualizing the exact field of view for your upcoming shot. By selecting a camera from the menu and adjusting the wheel to choose the lens's focal length, users can tailor their perspective accordingly.
The Magic ViewFinder supports various cameras including Helium 8K, Gemini, Weapon 8K, Scarlet-W, Weapon Dragon, Epic Dragon / Mysterium-X, Scarlet Dragon / Mysterium-X, and Red One. Additionally, it simulates the usage of teleadapters or anamorphic optics on your camera, allowing users to select the aspect ratio of the frame guide overlaying their image from the menu.
Users can also apply commonly used color presets (LUTs) to the live picture for a more accurate representation of the final shot. The ability to save customized views for future reference and control exposure and autofocus settings while taking photos enhances user control and precision.
Moreover, functionalities like constant autofocus mode, focus locking options, manual white balance adjustment, and real-time focal point adjustments allow for detailed fine-tuning. To account for differing field of views between digital and in-device cameras, the app intelligently adds 'padding' around the image.
Note that it is crucial to align your iPhone or iPad with the 'nodal point' of your actual lens for optimal accuracy.
The ad policy ensures that ads are displayed non-intrusively but can be disabled. For expanded features and an ad-free experience including optical adapters and frame guides integration, users can opt for a subscription (Option #1) or a one-time purchase of Premium Features (Option #2) within the 'About the App' menu.
